Summer Growth

For Henry, and the summer we spent holding each other. Through the highs and lows, and body-stretching, soul-aching growing pains.

For the baby who was the light in all the darkness. The baby who was with me, in the rocking chair, when my world stopped twice in one summer. The baby who kept me rocking through it.

the sobbing wracked my body
rocking my baby to sleep
as I held him through his newborn days
he held me through my grief
